MY BACKGROUND

A Dedicated Music Teacher

Music has always been a passion of mine.  I first wanted to be a drummer.  My oldest sister played French horn in the high school band. I saw the high school band drummers playing and thought "that is what I want to do".  I was so excited when I was old enough to join band in school.  That was the only option I had at the time.  We could not cover the cost of music lessons and other than my older sister there were no musicians I knew in the family.  My heart sank when I was told I could not play drums.  We could not cover the expense of the instruments.  I ended up on the bassoon and played that for three years.  In high school my opportunity to play drums came. I seized the opportunity and was able to transition to drums.  At this time, I had also started playing guitar.  I joined the high school jazz band and learned to play the bass guitar.  In college I continued my learning on all three instruments and expanded to other instruments as a instrumental music education major.  I have been teaching music since I graduated college.  I have been a director and taught in public education grades Pre-K through 8th grade.  I have also taught privately since before I graduated at many local music stores.  I have also played for various local music groups in the DFW area.  Currently I teach Pre-K music and play for two local groups.  One group is a small country/rock group and the other is a ministry group that plays for local shelters and Texas youth correctional facilities.  I am also a husband and father.  My wife shares a passion for music, and we try to perform together when we can.  She is a fantastic vocalist and vocal music teacher at Music N Arts in Hurst.  I hope to pass on my love of music to my own children.  I have experience and patience to be an excellent music teacher.  I am always learning more.  I am currently in a graduate program for educational technology and leadership.  I hope to use my knowledge gained there to expand my music teaching in a highly effective way.
